quercetin has shown to be very beneficial in preventing several health conditions

Quercetin is a plant-based chemical known as a flavonoid. Flavonoids are antioxidants that neutralize damaging free radicals within the body. In addition, quercetin acts like an antihistamine and anti-inflammatory and may help prevent heart disease as well as cancer.

Inside laboratories, quercetin has shown to be very beneficial in preventing several health conditions, including allergies, asthma, heart disease, high cholesterol, prostatitis (inflammation of the prostate) and hives. However, there is no evidence that quercetin has a positive effect on humans and additional tests are needed before researchers can confirm these results.

Quercetin and other flavonoids have been recognized to reduce the risks of some types of cancer. Once again, it is important to note that studies indicating this have only tested the effects of quercetin in test tubes and animals. Cancers that may benefit from supplements of quercetin are breast cancer, colon cancer, prostate cancer and ovarian cancer. Lung cancer tumors have also seen a decrease in cancer cell production when affected by quercetin.

Foods and liquids that provide a good source of quercetin include apple skins, onions, teas and red wine.
